Rudy Shepherd’s work explores the intersection of tragedy and vulnerability in American society. In his ongoing series of “healing devices” the artist fabricates small scale ceramic objects that resemble occult devices or sacred instruments. Part of a larger practice that includes performing and site-specific sculpture such as in his ongoing "Black Rock Negative Energy Absorber" works and collaborative sound series titled “Healing Music for a Troubled World” Shepherd proposes no solution, but has created an avatar or “Healer” character (performed by the artist himself in a black suit and mask) who “creates moments of collective reflection through videos and live performances.... His sculptures, including ceramic healing devices and shaman-like idols, feel ceremonial and key to eradicating the world’s negative energy.”
